California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said this summer’s spraying for the light brown apple moth won’t begin until tests on the pesticide’s health effects are conducted. But CBS 5 Investigates has learned that plan may not go far enough.

The governor announced the state would have the contractor perform what he called a “six-pack” of tests on a pesticide called Checkmate. But the state wants testing completed before spraying in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties is scheduled to begin in August. Tests to determine long-term health effects of the pesticide take much longer.
